Site Visit; Walk the Site and Take Photos and Videos

When I mention walk the site some people have asked what that exactly entails. Unfortunately, the answer is “I have no idea”.  I don’t go walking around specifically looking for anything. Sometimes I go for a walk after a meeting and then verify what was discussed and might find some discrepancies, other times its as simple as spotting a misunderstanding.

I also go for walks and if I see cable trays, conduit for network cabling, I take notes or photos in case I need to locate them at a later date.

In this project the cabling contractor will be pulling 2 CAT6A runs to where a wireless access point is to be located. It would be very helpful to see where exactly the cables are, how much slack is left, etc.

The Difference: ARP Vs GARP Explained

The Difference: ARP Vs GARP Explained

Ethernet networks use both network protocols ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) and GARP (Gratuitous ARP) to resolve IP addresses to MAC (Media Access Control), although they have different purposes. Lets talk about one by one and followed by difference between them

Outdoor Troubleshooting

I would recommend that every IT technician get a job working outside every so often.

Other than the obvious environmental differences like snow, rain, etc., outdoor troubleshooting has its unique challenges, like grounding, mice getting into enclosures, critters eating through cables, woodpeckers and squirrels storing nuts in enclosures, indoor rated cabling outside, i can go on....

Since there seems to be more interest in my raw videos with little to no editing, here you go.

In this video i try to figure out why this outdoor ip camera is not responding and share tips and tricks along the way.

Enjoy

The Deep Packet Inspection Consortium!! A Great Resource!

A new resource site and Team has shown up in the Technology Arena!

The Deep Packet Inspection Consortium!

DPI Consortium and its mission to improve patent quality and deter frivolous patent claims. The press release details the Consortium’s advisory board and the role NETSCOUT played in founding the organization and includes a history of deep packet inspection.

This site and its supporters are focused on open sharing of information related to the Network Monitoring and Analysis arena of which Deep Packet Inspection is the latest member of these elite monitoring solution to help prevent malicious attacks on today’s networks.

The DPI Consortium, an independent, non-profit organization committed to providing educational resources regarding the history of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology and development, recently conducted a technical training for the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) as part of the USPTO’s Patent Examiner Technical Training Program (PETTP). The training featured the DPI Consortium’s Advisory Board, a panel of leading technologists, inventors, and founders who have led the development of DPI technology since its inception and was part of the DPI Consortium’s ongoing work to advance the field of DPI technology by making historical research and development resources available to all.

The purpose of the DPI Consortium is to bring to light and document the history of DPI technology and innovation for new generations. Not only will this help to enhance the quality of future patents, by ensuring they only protect inventions that are genuinely new and inventive, it will also help members of the Consortium to respond to attacks from PAEs seeking to benefit from people’s lack of knowledge about that history.

Check out the awesome Resources page and learn - https://dpiconsortium.org/resources/

Would your Team like to join in this awesome foundation, contribute to the knowledge base, contribute to the prior art database, spread the word and more?

Please email - info@dpiconsortium.org

“This consortium will help the DPI community carry the fight against those who seek to exploit the patent system. By sharing information and helping the patent office understand that core DPI technologies were developed before the patents being asserted were filed, we can let innovators focus on what they do best.”
